SLS Pune has proactively engaged with Arizona University, New Hampshire University, Washburn University, Seattle University, Pepperdine University, Waikato University, Bristol University, Vienna University of Economics and Business, and Shastri-Indo-Canadian Institute. The collaboration has facilitated student-faculty mobility, participation in summer schools, and organization of conferences, guest sessions, webinars, and research projects.
SLS Pune has showcased a strong research culture along with an internationalisation agenda that has resulted in successful project applications under the Erasmus+ program of the EU. SLS, Pune's foray into EU grants can be traced to 2008, when it became the only Indian partner in the Erasmus Mundus Global Consortium of Law Schools.
SLS, Pune has been the recipient of four Erasmus+ CBHE KA2 projects of the EU, namely EURASIA, 21 Teach Skills Training, Climate Change Policy and Law, and International Law and Forced Migration Studies. SLS, Pune is also a recipient of 2 Jean Monnet Grants – JM Module on Legal Environment of Doing Business in India and Jean Monnet Chair for EU Climate Justice Law, Governance, Management and Policy.
Under the EURASIA project, SLS Pune developed 28 courses related to EU studies, which have been incorporated into programme structures of B.A.LL.B. /B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Three-Year LL.B. as electives. The project was instrumental in starting a new LL.M. specialisation in EU Law and International Law.
SLS, Pune, is a consortium partner of the ‘21st Century Teach Skills Project’, which is related to the ‘Teacher’s Training with specialisation on Life and IT Skills.’ As a part of this project, SLS Pune has developed a 10-credit certificate programme on 21st Century Skills. LS Pune, under the aegis of SIU, has also been a part of DAAD, a New Passage to India with the Berlin School of Economics and Law, Leibniz University Hannover, and Ostfalia University, Brunswick, Germany, which facilitates faculty and student exchange. The institution is also a project partner in the ‘Digital Economy Taxation Network’ led by Vienna University of Economics and Business. It has institutional memberships of some of the best international bodies recognized globally, such as the membership of IALS (International Association of Law Schools), ASLI (Asian Law Institute), IUCN, and GAJE.
On the National front, SLS Pune has a SPARC grant of Rs. 1 Crore by the Ministry of Education and has also undertaken the following projects under the Indian Council of Social Science Research related to ‘Law Trafficking and Disasters-tracing the interlinkages’ & ‘Law Gender and Disasters- A case study of Bundelkhand’. SLS Pune has been instrumental in influencing the new transformations in Criminal Justice Systems in India by submitting recommendations to the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Government of India . SLS Pune is also involved in research consultancy for Dr. Veerappa Moily, former Member of Parliament, India. SLS, Pune, under the Nyaya Bandhu Scheme (PRO BONO CLUB) of the Department of Justice, Government of India, was given the grant. Adding to its initiatives with the Government of India and the National Commission for Women, SLS Pune organized the “Regional Consultation on Review of Criminal Law- Improvement in Status of Women” in February 2022 and submitted a detailed report to the National Commission for Women.
SLS-P has established the Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research (SCALSAR). It is a centre for cutting-edge research, quality publications, government interface, hosting scholars in residence, undertaking interdisciplinary legal studies and research projects, training teachers, and designing training modules. SCALSAR was informally established in 2007 and was formalised and recognised as an excellence centre in 2013. SCALSAR envisions Ideas of architecture, infrastructure, and resources for advanced legal studies and research. It promotes research, training, and consultancy in excellence centres aligned with SIU clusters, having national and global importance in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary areas. It has 3 research clusters: Science, Technology, and Innovation Law, Rule of Law in Context, and Comparative Law.
Every year, SCALSAR organizes an International Research Conference, which has become popular as SYMROLIC, representing the Rule of Law with Indian and Global perspectives, aligning it with the SIU’s vision of an interdisciplinary engagement by connecting to different fields such as those of Innovation, Science, Technology, Human Behaviour, Global Policy, and Governance. The purpose of SCALSAR under the Faculty of Law, SIU, Symbiosis Law School Pune, is to promote centre-stage research, encourage quality publications, act as a think-tank to the government, host scholars in residence, undertake interdisciplinary legal studies and research projects, train teachers, and design training modules. SCALSAR contributes through three verticals—Science, Technology and Innovation Law; Rule of Law in Context; and International and Comparative Law, and operates under four centres: the Symbiosis Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (SCADR), the Symbiosis Centre for International and Comparative Child Rights (SCICCR), the Symbiosis Centre for Climate Change Policy and Law (SCCCPL), and the Symbiosis Legal Skills Centre (SLSC), along with two labs—the 21st Century Teaching Skills Lab and the Symbiosis Culture, Language, Law and Justice Lab. In the last year, the Centre has published more than 140 research papers in SCOPUS and WoS-indexed journals, now totalling up to 931 such publications. Balancing the social agenda, the Community Legal Care Centre of SLS Pune is engaged in the Prison Advocacy Programme of Mumbai High Court through Prison Clinic, it collaborates with District Legal Aid Services Authority, and has clinics in villages and the inner city.
SLS, Pune, offered a 2-year LL.M. Programme from 2003-2013. It is one of the pioneer institutions in the country to initiate the One-Year LL.M. Programme in 2013. The post-graduate programme is offered through the Center for Postgraduate Legal Studies (CPLS), with the objective of creating research-centric intellectuals and academicians. There is an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach in the study of law and research orientation underlining the relevance of research methodology with utmost technical precision and scientific sophistication. The students have an option of a cafeteria approach in terms of specialization, cross-specialization courses combining innovation, cutting-edge legal acumen, and theoretical insights.
With emphasis on research and publication under the umbrella of SCALSAR (Symbiosis Center for Advanced Legal Studies and Research), faculty and students are engaged in publishing the results of their research. All Admission to LL.M. (One Year) is offered through
Symbiosis All India Admission Test (AIAT), which will
take place in a Centre-Based Test (CBT) mode at select
test centres across India (The list of test centres may
be found in the AIAT Registration Portal). The AIAT
consists of:
a. Written Test (CBT Mode) (comprising of
objective (multiple choice) and subjective written test
to assess the aptitude for teaching, research, legal
aptitude, and basic legal knowledge)- Weightage 70%.
Test Duration: 105 minutes.

Admission to all the courses and programmes at Symbiosis International University (SIU) are strictly on merit basis based on the criteria and processes prescribed by the University and assessment of individual performance in Symbiosis National Aptitude Test [SNAP] for Postgraduate Studies and Symbiosis Entrance Test [SET] for Undergraduate Studies.
All aspirants / parents are hereby notified that some individuals / organisations are giving / making false and misleading advertisements / claims in newspapers, websites, social media platforms that they can ensure admission to Symbiosis International University and also charging heavy amount for the same.
In this regard, SIU requests the aspirants / parents to refrain from entering into any transaction with such elements. SIU has not appointed any individual / agency / organisation to make such assurance on its behalf. It is a matter of Policy that SIU does not charge capitation fee for admission from students and this is widely and prominently published as well on all the relevant places like prospectus, website, SNAP Booklet, SET Booklet etc.
Despite this Notice, if any aspirant / parents still proceeds with or enters into transaction with such elements, they would be doing so at their own risk and cost.
