About The Programme

The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme at Symbiosis Law School, Pune, is a comprehensive three-year course designed to impart professional legal competence among students from diverse academic backgrounds. This programme equips students with the necessary legal knowledge, skills, and ethical values to excel in various roles within the legal profession, beyond traditional litigation. Students will gain a strong foundation in law, integrated with interdisciplinary knowledge from different disciplines, enabling them to navigate complex legal issues with confidence. The curriculum fosters analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and cognitive abilities that prepare students for the dynamic legal landscape of a rapidly evolving world.

Against the various undergraduate and other specialized backgrounds; will acquire legal knowledge from various disciplines and professions to equip them to perform various roles of a professional lawyer beyond the traditional role of litigation linking their domain knowledge to legal profession.

Cultivate the ability to appreciate the role of lawyers in justice education in a globalising world sensitive to the needs of sustainability, poverty and vulnerability.

Acquaint with the institutions of the legal systems including national, regional ,international and multiple aspects of dispute resolution, with intellectual integrity, critical thinking, and as practice-ready lawyers.

Admission Eligibility & Selection Procedure

Eligibility

Graduate from any recognised University or Institution of National Importance with a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent grade (40% marks or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes)

Selection Procedure

Writing Sample and Personal Interaction of the candidates. Final selection shall be based on the combined merit list of Writing Sample and Personal Interaction.

Assessment & Graduation Criteria

The courses will have 40% Continuous Assessment and 60% Term End [University] examination however, some courses (not more than 30% of the total programme credits) may have 100% Continuous Assessment.


Standard of Passing

The assessment of the student for each examination is done, based on relative performance. Maximum Grade Point (GP) is 10 corresponding to O (outstanding). For all courses, a student is required to pass both internal and external examination separately with a minimum Grade Point of 4 corresponding to Grade P. Students securing less than 40% absolute marks in each head of passing will be declared FAIL. The University awards a degree to the student who has achieved a minimum CGPA of 4 out of maximum of 10 CGPA for the programme.


Award of Degree

Bachelor of Laws will be awarded at the end of semester 6 by taking into consideration the performance of all semester examinations after obtaining minimum 4.00 CGPA out of 10 CGPA.

Important Note:

  • Semesters 5 and 6 have been made fully internal to facilitate the pathway/JD program with international universities.
  • Principles and Foundations of EU Law has been removed from Semester 1.
  • T1454 Constitutional Law I & T1688 Constitutional Law II were originally in Semesters 2 and 3, but they have been moved to Semesters 1 and 2.
  • T1526 Developmental Lawyering Practice was shifted from Semester 1 to Semester 2.
  • T1506 Labour & Industrial Laws I and T1507 Labour & Industrial Laws II were moved from Semesters 5 and 6 to Semesters 3 and 4.
  • T1517 Alternative Dispute Resolution (Clinical Course II) in Semester 5 has been made an internal course.
