Virtual Conference on ‘Right to Breathe Clean Air: Health and Environment Related SDGs’ on 4th and 5th March 2021.

Symbiosis Law School Pune is pleased to announce that we have been awarded with the prestigious Golden Jubilee Conference and Lecture Series Grant (GJCLSG) for the year 2020-21 from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute is a binational organization that promotes understanding between India and Canada through academic activities and exchanges.

Considering the aforesaid grant, Symbiosis Law School, Pune is organising the Virtual Conference on ‘Right to Breathe Clean Air: Health and Environment Related SDGs’ on 4th and 5th March 2021. The two-day conference is specially designed to discuss and deliberate on various interdisciplinary areas and core issues pertaining to the theme and suggest the way forward by way of outcomes and resolutions.

The conference will be a forum to showcase the Indo-Canadian collaboration by way of leading academics, industry experts and thought leader presenting their views on the theme. These experts would also judge research papers in the broad themes of the conference that are as follows:

Curricula development on Climate Change Policy and Law

Name of the Project- “Curricula development on Climate Change Policy and Law” CCP_Law Reference number -618874-EPP-1-2020-1-VN-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP)

Funding Agency- Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union

Objectives

The main purpose of the project is to create a competence and multi-disciplinary blended curricula on Climate Change Policy and Law, customized to the needs of India, Vietnam and Malaysia.
The educational programme on Climate Change Policy and Law will be offered at a level of Postgraduate diploma (PGDip) or alternatively as an LL.M depending on each Partner HEI final decision.

Role of Symbiosis Law School, Pune in the Project

SLS, P as leaders in Work Package 1 and Work Package 4 will be responsible for identifying similar curricula in the subject area from their countries and the wider region in order to identify the gaps and better assess the exact academic needs that have to be catered for by the CCP_L educational program. Later it will ascertain that the program will not cover existing curricula and be truly innovative.
SLS P will be piloting the curricula and establish a climate change center

The welcome meeting was held on 12th December 2020 and the Kick off meeting was held on 23rd and 24th of March 2021.

DET - Digital Economy Taxation Network

The inexorable march of technological advancements and rapid evolutions in business models across entire industries, both in the digital and the “digitalized” economy, are challenging the traditional norms of international taxation as never before. Blockchain technology, Fintech, Cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0, among others, are disrupting traditional modes of operations, processes and global value chains, and pushing the existing boundaries of taxation. Yet at the same time, these technologies open up opportunities to transform the way that tax administrators operate and interact with taxpayers.

In August 2017, the Digital Economy Taxation Network (DET) was created as a new multi-stakeholder initiative to provide a platform for discussions among government, business, international and regional organizations and academia and to undertake policy-relevant research on taxation issues arising from the Digital Economy, with particular focus on the medium term potential for these technologies to transform the way in which our tax systems operate.

This initiative aims to bring together leaders from government, business and research institutions from around the world to undertake collaborative cutting-edge research into the implications of digitalization for tax policy and tax administration so as to maximize the opportunities and minimize the risks associated with digitalization.

The dialogue engages technology leaders and standard-setters to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas with the aim of promoting a common understanding between government and business on how to develop a tax and regulatory framework that will enable the Digital Economy to reach its full potential and at the same time help grow the revenue base. DET has an established network of over 400 active participants from over 80 countries.
