Curriculum - Diploma Programme

Symbiosis Law School Pune offers following evening Diploma Programmes for one year:

 

1) DIPLOMA IN BANKING LAWS: (DBL)

Objective: Ever since globalization and opening up of the economy, banking in India is changing fast to keep pace with, and attain the standards of International banking norms. This programme has the goal of advancement of banking laws and legal process in the context of the fast changing banking scenario.

CORE SUBJECTS:

Module 1: Banking Laws I

Module 2: Banking Laws II

Module 3: Banking laws and Financial Institution.

Module 4: Foreign Exchange and Bank Lending.

 

2) DIPLOMA IN LABOUR LAWS AND LABOUR WELFARE (D.L.L & L.W)

Objective:  This Diploma Programme provides opportunity for candidates to receive advance instructions in the relationship; and interplay between existing Labour-related legislation and changing industrial scenario.  The diploma is specially designed to meet the needs of those whose prior education has been in fields other than law and who would like to supplement their database with in-depth knowledge of Labour laws.


CORE SUBJECTS:

Module 1: Industrial Relations

Module 2: Social Security Legislations.

Module 3: Law of Wages and Principals of Wage fixation

Module 4: Legislation Affecting Condition of Work

Module 5: Case studies in Labour Laws

Module 6: Field Work.

 

3) DIPLOMA IN ARBITRATION, CONCILLATION AND ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION SYSTEM.  (D.A.C. & A.D.R.S)

OBJECTIVE: The conventional dispute resolution system has proved to be cumbersome and vexatious and hence the programme emphasizes on the alternative systems, which would replace the traditional ones.


CORE SUBJECTS:

Module 1: Domestic Arbitration

Module 2: International Commercial Arbitration.

Module 3: Conciliation Drafting and case

Module 4: General Laws


4) DIPLOMA IN TAXATION LAWS. (D.T.L)


OBJECTIVE:  This is aimed at individuals who wish to extend their professional expertise and combine it with a broad based understanding of the taxation structure.  The programme enables a candidate to start income tax and sale tax consultancies.


CORE SUBJECTS:


Module 1: Income Tax & Wealth Tax

Module 2: Central Sales Tax Act and State Minor Tax Laws.

Module 3: Central Excise, Customs and Conciliation Drafting and case

Module 4: Book-Keeping and accountancy.

Module 5: Maharashtra Value Added Tax.

Module 6: Practical Training.


5) DIPLOMA IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LAW & CORPORATE LAWS IN INDIA. (D.I.B.L & C.L.I)


OBJECTIVE: Legal complications have increased due to increase in cross border transactions.  This programme structure has been formulated in order to cater to the International legal issues and it will help in gaining considerable knowledge in the practice of corporate laws in India.


CORE SUBJECTS:


Module 1: International Economic Law

Module 2: Overview of Corporate Taxation.

Module 3: Laws relating to Banking

Module 4: Indian Financial Markets and SEBI

Module 5: Competition Act & Consumer protection Act, 1986

Module 6: Company Law, Practice & Procedure.

Module 7: Arbitration & International Arbitration.

 

6) DIPLOMA IN CYBER LAWS (D.C.L):


OBJECTIVE: The programme is meant to impart in-depth knowledge of cyber laws and its applicability in India.  The programme aims at emphasizing upon basic concepts of technology and law, digital contracts, rights of netizens and E-governance.  Further it aims at studying cyber space and various aspects cyber laws and regulating them through relevant Acts.  The programme offers a unique opportunity to have a comparative study of national and international laws keeping in view International scenario in a no barrier world.


CORE SUBJECTS:

Module 1: Cyber jurisprudence

Module 2: Intellectual Property& Cyber space

Module 3: Cyber Crime & Related Laws

Module 4: Information Technology Act, 2000.

Module 5: Cyber Law: International Perspective

Module 6: Laboratory Work.



7) DIPLOMA IN MEDICAL JURISPRUDENCE AND FORENSIC SCIENCE (D.M.J):


OBJECTIVE: Application of scientific knowledge and technology in redefining and enforcing law.


CORE SUBJECTS:

Module 1: Forensic Science-Nature, Scope and Its Application.

Module 2: Medical Jurisprudence, Toxicology.

Module 3: Clinical Forensic Medicine, Criminal Investigation Trial

Module 4: Medical Negligence Related concepts & Enactments.

 

8) DIPLOMA IN CRIMINOLOGY AND PENOLOGY

(DC & P):


OBJECTIVE: The programme is designed to offer an opportunity to revisit the preconceived notions regarding causes of crime and the methods used for prevention.  It also aims at creating substantial understanding of the changing trends in criminal activity and its repercussions on the existing system and to cultivate a capacity to visualize futuristic improvisation in the methods of prevention and control of crimes.


CORE SUBJECTS:

Module 1: Crime and Criminology

Module 2: Penology

Module 3: Modem Criminology

Module 4: Reformative Criminal Justice System.

Module 5: Practical Training



9) DIPLOMA IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAWS

(D.I.P.L)


OBJECTIVE: Creating awareness about IPR in scientific and technical community for protecting their inventions. Imparting adequate knowledge for the decision making in IPR to non-lawyers like senior managers, administrator’s etc.Practical experience of practices and procedures in various government offices administering IPR Laws.Increasing the capability of scientific community to interact with legal professionals for effective protection of IPRs.  To offer a comprehensive programme exclusively in Intellectual Property Rights

 

CORE SUBJECTS:

Module 1: Nature, scope and International Regime of Intellectual Property Laws.

Module 2: Law relating to Inventions

Module 3: Law relating to Merchandise Marks

Module 4: The copyright Act, 1958

Module 5: The Laws relating to Designs and information Technology.



10) DIPLOMA IN HUMAN RIGHTS JURISPRUDENCE

(D.H.R.J)


OBJECTIVE: The focus of the programme is to understand and evaluate national problems from a global perspective.  At the global level, human rights issues are addressed through various declarations and conventions.  At national level, reference can be made to various constitutional provisions, legislation, administrative actions and judicial decisions of the apex court, which would help in creating not only a strong sense of awareness and sensitization but also effectively assist  in the realization of human rights.


CORE SUBJECTS:

Module 1: Universal and National Perspectives of Human Rights Historical and Theoretical approach.

Module 2: Concepts of Human Rights under International Law.

Module 3: Human Rights in India: Constitutional obligations, Legislative Enactments and Judicial Trends.

Module 4: Contemporary Issues in Human Rights.

Module 5: Field work Reports/Dissertation.

 

11) DIPLOMA IN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMEMT AND LABUR LAWS. (D.H.R.M & L.L)


OBJECTIVE: Effective people management is the key to competitive success.  New approaches to managing, motivating, rewarding and developing should be combined with protection of their rights s employees.  The ideal award is the practical benefit of productivity and career progression.  The programme enables the student to develop skills and acquire tools to implement HRM policy and link learning with tangible HRM changes in organization or community along with conforming to the law.  Ultimately, it benefits both, the lawyer and the manager or the lawyer-manager.

Module 1: Organisation, Behavior and Industrial relations- Managing change and Quality Management.

Module 2: Human Resource Planning, Development, Compensation and Reward.

Module 3: Labour Law I: Laws on working conditions, Wages and Labour.

Module 4: Labour Law II: Laws on Social Security and Case Studies.

Module 5: Practical Training (Projects, field visit, workshop, emerging issues, negotiation, conflict resolution)

 

12) DIPLOMA IN GENDER, SEXUALITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS ( DGHR)

Objective: The Programme is targeted at students, professionals, bureaucrats, social workers, researchers, teachers and workers in NGO sector. As the name suggests, it will employ an approach that brings together many pedagogic practices of knowledge, discrimination, classroom teaching, group discussion, case studies, essential studies, team activities, film, theatre, field work, game and experimental learning processes- all integrated together through an “ active participatory model”  of teaching to create a unique learning experience.

Module 3: Human Rights: Historical and Cultural Perspective.

13)  DIPLOMA IN MEDIA AND LAW( DML)

OBJECTIVE: Media plays an important role in a democratic country. It is rightly been considered to be the fourth pillar of democracy. Free media is an essence for a free society, but there is also a possibility that the freedom might be misused to the disadvantage of the society. Thus, there is a requirement for regulation of the mass media. Understanding the law in the context of media, enables the media professional to restrain and motivates the truth-telling.

Module 1: Media and Public Policy

Module 2: Media Regulatory Framework

Module 3: Current & Emerging Trends in Media

Module 4: Media – Advertisement and Law

Module 5: Practical – field visit, project, viva


POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN TAX MANAGEMENT AND TAX ADMINISTRATION :( P.G.D.T.M. & T.A):

Duration: 2 Years


OBJECTIVES: This structured path within the modular syllabus is particularly aimed at individuals who wish to extend their professional expertise combining it with a broad based understanding of taxation structure and allied management functions.  The integrated knowledge achieved through this programme is vital to the strategic development of high-teach global management.
